What Doorman does
Doorman adds an age check to a Shopify store. It can estimate a shopper's apparent age from a photo, accept a date of birth, and refuse checkout when no valid check is attached to the cart. It records that checks took place so the merchant can evidence them.
What Doorman does not do
Doorman is a tool, not legal advice and not a guarantee of compliance. Age estimation is an estimate: it can be wrong in either direction, which is why the app asks for a document when a shopper's apparent age is close to the threshold. The merchant remains responsible for meeting the age verification laws that apply to what they sell and where they sell it, for configuring the app correctly, and for deciding whether photo-based estimation is an acceptable method in their jurisdiction.
Your responsibilities as a merchant
You agree to configure rules that reflect the products you actually sell, to keep checkout enforcement switched on if you rely on it, to tell your shoppers what the check involves, and to obtain any consent your local law requires before a shopper's photo is processed. You agree not to use Doorman to identify individuals — it is not built for that and must not be used for it.
Billing
Plans are billed monthly through Shopify at the price shown in the app, after any free trial. There is no charge per check on any plan. Optional identity-document checks beyond a plan's included allowance are charged per check at the rate shown at the time. Cancelling uninstalls billing at the end of the current period; Shopify's own refund handling applies.
Availability
We aim to keep the service available continuously, but we do not promise uninterrupted operation. If the age check cannot run, the app is designed to ask the shopper to verify another way rather than to let them through unchecked.
Liability
To the extent permitted by law, our total liability arising out of the service is limited to the fees you paid for it in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for fines, penalties or losses arising from your own configuration, from selling to a shopper the app was not asked to check, or from an estimate being incorrect within the stated limits of the method.
Ending the agreement
You can uninstall at any time. On uninstall we stop processing, and your settings, rules and check records are deleted within 30 days.
